Database Administrator

  • perform database analysis, database modeling, database information assurance and security, database installation, database configuration, and database performance monitoring and tuning

  • Resolve complex systems problems and issues. Candidate will

  • Evaluate and , guidelines, and procedures to meet project and users established objectives

  • Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to 'front end' users;

  • Mapping out the 'conceptual design' for a planned database in outline;

  • Further refining the 'physical design' to meet system storage requirements;

  • nstalling and testing new versions of the database management system (DBMS);

  • Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary ('metadata');

  • Controlling access permissions and privileges;

  • Developing, managing and testing backup and recovery plans;

  • Ensuring that storage, archiving, backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly;

  • Working closely with the project manager and web developers;

  • Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security;

  • Commissioning and installing new applications.

 Skills and qualifications:

  • A university degree in IT or relevant discipline.

  • Outstanding Oracle experience, with exposure to other databases MS-SQL.

  • Knowledge of application server products.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Linux and windows.

  • TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP and DNS

  • Extensive knowledge of server hardware and networking equipment.

  • An ability to produce documentation that is well- structured and well-written.

  • To be conscious of the requirement for on-going security and to apply it as appropriate

  • 3 years experience of delivering complete technical projects.

 Duration:  12 months
